Are you a control freak? Do you like to manage every aspect of your life? If that is the case, then you must be very frustrated (smile). When you try to follow the Lord, there are going to be things in your life that you don’t see or understand. This could be problematic for people who are used to managing everything. Sometimes all you will be able to take solace in is being obedient to God. Knowing that you are doing God’s will often have to be enough to keep you on track.
People always want to know the next steps, what’s around the corner, what is God planning on their behalf. The realities of a life of faith, however, is that most of those answers won’t be revealed. You probably will just know the general direction where He is headed. Think about Abraham, he knew that God promised that he would be the father of many nations. Genesis 17:3-8 records that,
“Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, ‘As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.’”
Talk about a life’s vision! God had told Abraham what He wanted to do in his life. Now a control freak would want to know, how? When? Where? What do I do? What do I say? All of these to make God’s plan come to pass. But one thing we fail to remember, is that God is active, He likes doing things for us. He likes fulfilling His promises on our behalf. He likes pouring our blessings. The scripture tells us,
“‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.” Zechariah 4:6
“What I have said, that I will bring about; what I have planned, that I will do.” Isaiah 46:11
Being in God and living by faith means trusting, surrendering, and allowing God to direct. That means simple, daily, obedience must become enough for you. Stop trying to control and figure everything out. Just go with obedience, it is guaranteed to get you directly where you need to be.
Trust God today! Obey his directing for today! Have faith that you are right on track for tomorrow’s promised blessing by allowing God to do His thing on your behalf.
