Most people don’t seem to understand the true power that God has given us through His gift of free will. With it, we can choose heaven or hell, success or failure and blessing or cursing.
This gift from God is what allow our freedom in this world. God could have made us a bunch of obedient robots, but to make us truly like him, He created mankind with the ability to choose. Free will therefore, is the most powerful ability that any man has.
Free will can even thwart God himself. Think about it. Throughout scripture, because of the choices of men, God’s hands were often tied. Let’s look at a few examples.
Numbers 13:27-33
They gave Moses this account: “We went into the land to which you sent us, and it does flow with milk and honey! Here is its fruit. But the people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites live in the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live near the sea and along the Jordan.” Then Caleb silenced the people before Moses and said, “We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it.” But the men who had gone up with him said, “We can’t attack those people; they are stronger than we are.” And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”
Even though God wanted them to have this land, he had prepared it for them, they did not think they could take the land, so they missed their blessing.
Jesus himself was also prevented from pouring our greater blessings on the people. It wasn’t because of His inability, it was because of what they chose to believe. Mark 6:5 says,
“He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.”
Your own free will makes all the difference in your life. Use it for good and for God. Let all His blessings and purposes be released in your life today because you choose to agree with them.
